The Mathematics of the 90-Minute 100-MCQ Paper
In a standard PPSC or FPSC screening paper:
- Total Time: 90 Minutes (5,400 seconds)
- Total Questions: 100 MCQs
- Gross Time Per Question: 54 seconds
- Net Practical Time (factoring OMR bubbling & attendance signing): 45 seconds per question
Candidates who spend 3 minutes struggling on an early math problem inevitably run out of time on general knowledge questions they could have answered in 10 seconds.
The 3-Round Strategy for 100-MCQ Papers
Round 1: The Instant Certainty Sweep (Minutes 0–40)
Go through all 100 questions rapidly. Answer only the questions you know with absolute certainty within 15–20 seconds (mostly General Knowledge, Islamiat, Everyday Science, and straightforward English questions). Bubble these directly onto your OMR sheet.
- Expected Progress: 50–60 questions answered safely, generating immediate confidence.
Round 2: The Analytical & Math Calculations (Minutes 40–75)
Tackle the quantitative ability problems, multi-step logic deductions, and sentence corrections that require calculation or grammatical analysis. Work deliberately without rushing arithmetic.
- Expected Progress: Another 20–25 questions secured.
Round 3: Strategic Elimination & Review (Minutes 75–90)
Examine questions where you eliminated two options earlier. Apply calculated guessing where probability favors you, verify that all OMR bubbles correspond to the correct question numbers, and leave ambiguous questions blank.
